We have always required parent attendance during the orientation to our 1:1 program. This includes 6th grade parent and students as well as 9th grade. (hosted separately)They sit through the student orientation as we cover the policy handbook (AUP). They sign the agreement with their child as well. It provides a good baseline to return to as the year progresses. I also have hosted “Parent Support Saturdays” in the middle school over the past several years. I open a classroom and invite parents to come and ask questions on how best to support their son/daughter.
